LA GALAXY UNIFORM DESIGN

The goal of this project was to choose a sports team or individual athlete; and design and create a line of products (Uniform, apparel, and merchandise). Growing up in Carson, CA, I decided to choose the Los Angeles Galaxy, a soccer team that I grew up watching, and design an alternative kit as well as fan merchandise based on a mashup of the late 90s and early 00s uniforms with a modern twist.

KEY CONCEPTS:
Ideation * Mood Boards * Brand Identity * Apparel Design * Team Identity * Merchandising * Brand Strategy

This uniform was designed as the third kit (Alternate uniform) of the field players. The design was inspired by the 1996 and 99’ home jerseys as well as the 2021 away jersey. Initially, the plan was to do a mash up of four different jerseys (2 home 2 Away); However, to keep a cohesive and aesthetically pleasing uniform I refined my ideas to this singular concept.

The secondary design is for the goal keeper.  Inspired by the color scheme of the 2002 home jersey and 1998 special jersey, this uniform is meant to be a high contrast uniform, which most teams goal keepers have, that remains in theme with the field player uniforms.
This design is for the players warm up uniforms as they come out, and as they sit on the bench waiting to go into the game. The warm ups include the alternative kit colors and the two tone design, while keeping some other elements of the uniform in a different way, such as the stipe pattern running down the sides verses across the whole leg of the pants. It was also created as a merchandising piece for the fans to feel as though they are apart of the team and can sport the top or bottom as a single piece, as well as both.
These two designs also serve as merchandising for the team. The headband (left) is a reversible that allows the fans to choose what design they would rather have in the moment. The red and yellow side represents the Los Angeles flags that the original 1996 jersey incorporated, and the other side has stars with year on them representing every year the Galaxy has won an MLS Cup (2002, 2005, 2011, 2012, 2014). The banner (right) combines all the elements of the uniform as well as the stars that pay homage to every MLS Cup the Galaxy has won.
